Every songwriter gets the urge to write a song that belongs in a room filled with cigarette smoke, clinking glasses and people pretending not to watch each other.
This was ours.
Billy and I wanted something with old-school swagger. Something Sinatra might've nodded at before ordering another drink. But we also wanted it to tell a story. A little movie… with brass.
Then my friend and mentor Billy Vera stepped in.
Grammy® winner. Great songwriter. Great singer.
He didn't just sing on it.
He acted as well. Figuratively and literally.
That's what the best singers do.
So pull up a chair in that imaginary nightclub. Make everything black and white. Let the band count it off.
